How AI Fundamentally Changing the Healthcare Ecosystem: Insights from Mithrl and Trellis
On Saturday, January 10th, we hosted a technical AI 4 Healthcare workshop at AGI House with Mithrl and Trellis, exploring how AI is pushing biology into a new era of programmability. Mithrl highlighted a critical reality at the frontier: in drug discovery, hallucination isn’t an option. Additionally, an unsolved issue is that scientists often don’t yet know what questions to ask when faced with massive, complex biological datasets.
The hackathon teams built early prototypes directly in this direction: a latent-space drug discovery engine for surfacing novel therapeutics, an AI-powered search layer for public NGS data, and an RNA-seq discovery agent that automatically finds and ranks related experiments. Congratulations to all the winners. We’re excited to keep building around this frontier at AGI House.

Thinking Machines Lab Loses Key Leaders Back to OpenAI
Two co-founders of Mira Murati’s AI startup Thinking Machines Lab, Barret Zoph and Luke Metz, are departing to rejoin OpenAI alongside another former OpenAI researcher, Sam Schoenholz.
More Headlines
OpenAI is officially going after healthcare. OpenAI has unveiled ChatGPT Health, a dedicated health experience designed to integrate medical records, wearables, and clinical context directly into ChatGPT.
+OpenAI just bought health-records startup Torch to supercharge ChatGPT Health. Torch was working on an app that combined all of a person’s medical information for AI use from a range of sources such as doctor visits, lab tests, wearables, and other portals.
Labs is internal incubator focused on exploring experimental products at the frontier of Claude’s capabilities. The initiative brings on Instagram co-founder and former CPO Mike Krieger to co-lead the Labs team.

Inside a 200,000-Run Experiment on Test-Time Compute
AI21 Labs ran a large-scale 200,000+ SWE-bench Verified campaign and the takeaway is blunt: how you allocate test-time compute matters more than which model you pick. GPT-5 mini, run 8x in parallel with structured orchestration, outperforms single GPT-5 runs at 60% lower cost. In a new technical deep dive, AI21 Labs shows how replacing ReAct loops with explicit plans, automatic horizontal scaling, and decision-theoretic execution reshapes the cost–accuracy trade-off for long-horizon agents. On SWE-bench Verified, orchestrated GPT-5 matches the performance of Claude 4.5 Opus - without changing the model. Full methodology, data, and cost breakdowns included.
