Long Horizon Agents Build Day

On August 22nd, 100+ builders filled the house in Hillsborough for one question: what does it take for an agent to hold a goal for hours instead of minutes? Josh Payne (founder & CEO, Coframe) opened with the math that framed the day — a 1,000-step task at 99% per-step reliability succeeds 0.004% of the time. Neil Movva (CEO, Sail Research, eight months old and fresh off an $80M raise from Kleiner Perkins and Sequoia) argued the entire inference stack flips — data centers, silicon, software — when you optimize for throughput instead of latency. Spandan Madan (Engramme) made the case that memory isn't retrieval at all: if it isn't proactive and associative, it isn't memory.

Where the room landed: the horizon charts measure capability, but what decides whether you can actually delegate is reliability, and those two curves are diverging.

Research Spotlight: Bruno

Instead of just writing about the papers we like, we're putting the authors on camera. First up: Andy Haupt and Prashaant Ranganathan on Bruno — winner of the Best AI Scientist award at ICML's AI4Science workshop, which is funny, because Bruno refuses to do science. It's a coordination agent: while everyone else builds AI to replace the researcher, Bruno handles the chaos around the research — the decisions lost in Slack threads, the handoffs nobody tracks.

Two co-authors interviewing each other means the questions are the ones only a co-author would know to ask.
